
Half-Life 2 Beta - Wasteland Train Introduction (Possible Level Development Concept I Thought Up)
Hello everyone and welcome to a short, no voice commentary video where I outline my idea of mapping out the Wasteland train introduction from Half-Life 2 Beta, using code from a mod called Mapbase. In essence, you could cram all of the Wasteland geometry in the 3D skybox and move the sky_camera entity (which will then update the position of the 3D skybox, made possible via code changes in Mapbase) while keeping the world geometry static (in this case the train). This simulates the motion of a fast train through a large environment. I briefly mention benefits/drawbacks to doing this, plus a possible workaround for brushes with small details that would normally be deleted by Hammer.
