Half-Life: Invasion | High Speed | No Failure Run
5I like to vary up my runs every now and then, so it's natural that I go back to the ol' LD pack after running through the Remod with The World Machine. Unfortunately, while wirejamming High Speed here, I ended up getting annoyed at some of the inconsistencies that the original mod had. Ended up having to cobble up a combo mix of texture packs, reanimations, and so on. Not perfect, but it'll do.
Anyways, High Speed! Did you know that most of the enemy spawns in this mapset are done with monstermakers? This might sound good on paper, but you'll note that absolutely none of the hgrunts here use nor drop shotguns, thus making my usual strategy of double shots followed by 9mmAR bursts hard to do. Kinda need buckshot ammo to do that, and the mapset is a bit stingy on that.
I could probably try replacing some of them with proper regular spawns, but I wasn't gonna comb through the entire bestiary roster placement, so I went with the next best thing. Manually going through the maps and occasionally adding more ammo when needed. Same for grenades, too. This mod REALLY likes ambushes, but almost never gives player grenades to help. At best maybe M203s.
Also, I absolutely disapprove of the way you're meant to progress in the last map. It's kinda hilarious, seeing so many walkthrough videos do the progress accidentally, by waltzing straight and tanking the damage from the lasers instead of blowing up the powergrid to turn it off. Decided to tamper it a bit so it makes sense to the casual player. Plus, adding a much needed appearance of the satchel.
