Halloween Level Design Contest (2014) - 4th Placed Entry - The Mario Game
(This upload is for documentation purposes)
A 2014 'horror' romhack released for HLDC2014, which I guess means ALPHA SPHERE was my second attempt at a halloween thing. This one is pretty interesting, while overall it's pretty bare basics, the main 'fear' of the hack is to solve puzzles at a very short amount of time. And hey, it got pretty high! I guess proving halloween was my favourite holiday paid off.
Here let's confirm one small thing with this hack: the main figure who talks to you in the beginning of the game is none-other than "Jinker Bolts"! You can (partially) tell it's him because his eyes are diamond shaped. Of course, a lot of retconning has been made since then; I have about 9 years of refining this character of mine. Still, I do consider this entry to be canonical to my series, even if it definitely benefits with a remake. (Timeline wise, this takes place after Daizo's Journey)
The main objective is a pitch black darkness is roaming around an abandoned warehouse, and Mario simply has to find a way to escape before his soul gets consumed by it. Inside a secret room you can find that Daizo (a Rixzo sharing my username who acts nothing like me) is found dead. The bad ending revolves around Mario being trapped with a Mario doll. The good ending sees Mario escape.

Fun fact: the song used in the intro and overworld returns in ALPHA SPHERE as Jinker Bolts' theme in that game. That basically confirms who the villain is here. Of course, this and ALPHA SPHERE aren't connected; there is a variant of Jinker Bolts in every universe.
