Having a BLAST Flying My DREAM FPV JET!! ✈️ Su-35 FPV w/ Vector OSD
35Watch me perform 3 pretty exciting aerobatic flights with the FPV upgraded Freewing Su-35 rc jet in a split screen arrangement that lets you to compare the synchronized external view of the plane with the thrilling onboard cockpit 'first person view' footage, all complete with the real-time flight data overlaid in the image that I get through the VR goggles!
BTW, this is the slow motion, music edit. I will be posting the raw clips shortly after. ;)
I am now using an Eagle Tree Vector flight controller that features an amazing 'on screen display' (OSD) in the style of an F-16 Head Up Display (HUD), which makes the flight a lot more interesting and shows a wealth of information, gathered from a multitude of sensors ranging from a GPS, compass and IMU to a current sensor and pitot tube for true airspeed measuring! All this real time data enables pilots to be more precise when maneuvering. Sadly, this flight controller has been now discontinued for a many years, after its manufacturer closed, and no other brand has replicated this level of performance in more modern OSDs. :'(

Nadya (this jet, my FPV modded, 3rd Su-35 airframe) had spent 5 years grounded, but is now finally back in the air and kicking ass!!
The story goes as follows: back in late 2020, after 169 flights, the Su-35's former flight controller, a FeiYuTech FY-41AP, died on the bench. I just plugged the battery as I was readying for another flight, and it wouldn't power up.
Selecting a replacement took quite some time, and then I was permanently busy with other projects. I also wanted to properly study the new controller's manual first, but being roughly 100 pages of documentation meant this wouldn't be a quick task. That led me to keep procrastinating this project in favor of others I could deal with faster, so the 'comeback' of my FPV jet got systematically delayed time and again. I just recently found my missing resolve and finally took the time to get everything sorted out, so the wait is finally over, and the FPV Su-35 flies again! :DDD
And yes, this jet still features my old 'custom' EDFs with high kv motors, which make it very whiny compared to my other, more modern EDFs.
I'll certainly replace those fans soon enough anyway, but I decided to leave them in for the time being, as I was already changing many things at once. ;)

Regarding my SU-35 setup:
This is a highly modded Freewing SU-35S. It includes an autopilot controller and an FPV head tracking visual system that makes the plane effectively a UAV/RPA.
The flight controller is the now discontinued EagleTree Vector, and it also provides the OSD seen on the video signal.
Just as virtual reality 'VR' goggles are used to play videogames, here a similar technique is used to watch what the plane sees in real time just like if you were sitting in the plane's cockpit, and the camera will follow your head movements!
