One year ago, we spoke about Ryan Merkley on the channel as a prospect who had a few issues. These issues didn't have anything to do with the best parts about his game, which were his explosiveness, shot, vision, playmaking, and tenacity as an offensive defenceman, but rather, they had everything to do with his personality, attitude, and somewhat "uncoachable" traits. These issues, present in Merkley's game since his draft year in 2018, didn't stop the San Jose Sharks from selecting the highly talented defender at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft in the first round.
This video today goes over Merkley one year removed from the drama that occurred before he got traded to the London Knights from the Peterborough Petes. I'm very happy to mention that it appears the problems that Merkley had in his game have started to fade away.
