Here's a closer look at this bug that happened during one of my attempts at the Badlands part of the playthrough. This was caused through Chaos Serpents taking splash damage from dead trees bursting into flames, either causing the Chaos Serpents of the same kind to attack each other, or in rare cases as shown here, attack themselves to death.
