Well this sure was a video game I played.

The story is... Painful. What starts as a potentially compelling into quickly nosedives into fantasy racial supremacy, which hurt particularly bad considering the current day as I started playing it. It goes from that letdown into a longer and longer string of further letdowns, as it devolves into more and more incredibly base anime tropes, to the point where I started making a game out of its cliches, and laughing at its effort instead of with it. And the ending, the big reveal of the final plot, was just... Terrible. Actually awful.

The gameplay is... Full of promise, but then it squanders that promise by being too easy to justify its mechanical depth, all the way to the final boss. An overabundance of free full restore points means you'll just be rampaging through enemies with your strongest skills constantly, and avoiding them trivially when you don't have access to one. Those are the only two gears, unless you want to hamstring yourself.

You get all of one new character to mix into your starting party until the final dungeon, where they dump 5 more on you at once, because they decided to split the game into two perspectives instead of one longer campaign, which ultimately just squanders more potential gameplay depth, because once you're 22 out of 25 hours in, you're not going to want to learn new characters, build up new weapons from scratch, and all that. The actually unique new character you get is similarly drowned in the sea of new recruits from the other route, so that person's addition to the roster is completely glossed over.
