Hiding Lore in Plain Sight - The “Tales of” Series’ Conditional Dialogue
Is it cheating to use Grand Chokmah’s music in a video where I don’t talk about Abyss? Maybe. But I am talking about Tales towns, so… Close enough.
Also, sorry Keele. And sorry Leon and Philia. If I were even half-decent at image editing I might’ve been able to not block your faces out.
But I am not, so I did.
Anyway, Tales dialogue and examinables. Man, there is a treasure-trove of lore there if you go digging. Admittedly, how hard they go on it varies from game to game, but it’s really cool when they do lean into it. It gives them a whole new avenue to explore the characters, world, and even magic systems. (And you know how Tales loves its magic systems.)
Quite a fan. And I think it’s a writing technique that I’d love to see more games adopt.
Like I mentioned, it’s a very cost-effective to cram more detail into a game. Text is a lot cheaper to add than graphics, gameplay, or areas after all. But you can really do a lot with it if you try.
With that said, I am tired, and so I’ll stop my own text here for this week. Thanks as always for your time, and till next time, take care out there.
