In all seriousness, yeah, think I bit off more than I could chew this week. I thought “Hey, I’ll talk about Star Ocean’s Fury system! Shouldn’t be too hard to fit that into a minute.”

Clearly my hubris knows no bounds.

Shoulda known that explaining one mechanic in a Tri-Ace game is never explaining just *one* mechanic. Their games are an absolute labyrinth of interweaving systems that can only be properly understood in the context of the whole. As a result, I also had to explain the Attack Triangle, and its interactions. And I didn’t even get to touch on Chain Combos!

As a result, not only did it take longer than I thought, but I’m also not super happy with how it turned out, to be honest. I think this might be a sign to do a full video on the combat system, so I can properly do it justice. So uh, wish me luck with that.

Also, tried something new with the footage this week. Since the topic was turning out to be so complicated, I figured I’d try to keep the visuals simple. Do a single take battle to demonstrate, rather than cutting between examples. Figured that’d be easier to follow.

What I did not expect, was how long it’d take to choreograph a battle that decently lined up with the script’s timing, while also being interesting to look at on its own.

Lemme tell ya, those wolf actors would not cooperate. Couldn’t follow directions to save their lives. Or… Well I guess that outcome wasn’t in the cards for them, was it? Huh… Maybe I can see why they were so uncooperative.

Doesn’t excuse it though. No place for such amateurism on *my* set, thank you very much!

Anyway, think I’m done venting. Sorry, for real, that it was late this week. And hopefully next week’s will also turn out a little better.
