So... my AVerMedia USB HD DVR arrived today which can record up to 1080i with ease, and I took it for a test spin with two tests from my Xbox 360. It costed me roughly $200 and captures in MPEG2-TS format, a format which is very difficult to convert into more user-friendly formats, especially while retaining its 60FPS. I was frustrated for a while but spent a few hours weighing my options and finally figured out how to utilize it to the max for my purposes and bring its files into my other editors of choice.

The hardware and software itself is rather neat, it's not excessively high on resources for what it does, its priced fairly compared to other things on the market that can capture in (Component) HD and run off of a USB 2.0 slot, and I'm really glad I picked it up overall. I took what I already know about video editing and converted the clip into a 30FPS clip that gives off the illusion of 60FPS motion, compressing the clip as an MP4 with 50 percent compression (the default of Camtasia Studio). I think it turned out pretty good as I was focusing more on framerate conversion than overall quality. I focus more on quality than framerate in my second test.
