This is what happens when you take HL2 .bsp map files and copy and paste them into Black Mesa. If the maps feel a bit empty, it's because they are. All entities unique to HL2 just don't appear. However, entities that have the same names in Black Mesa will load their Black Mesa counterparts and work flawlessly. This includes medkits, wall chargers, headcrabs and some weapons (specifically crowbar, revolver, shotgun, crossbow, RPG and grenades). You also notice some textures look different compared to how they're supposed to look in HL2. This means that the Black Mesa devs reused that texture name in their game but made it look different. This is especially jarring on doors (which all look like Black Mesa doors from levels like On a Rail or Surface Tension) and vending machines.
