With the excursion to the Forbidden Section of the library over, you need to return to Professor Fig’s classroom and speak with him. You will interrupt a conversation between Fig and Professor Sharp, and after Sharp leaves you can give Fig the book. Fig must depart for the Ministry to explain George Osric’s death in person, and will search for information about the book while doing so. You, on the other hand, are tasked with finding out about the missing pages of the book.Upon meeting Natsai in Lower Hogsfield, she will lament she hasn’t been proactive like you up until now. She suggests taking down Theophilis to cripple Rookwood and Ranroks operation. She will tell you to wait until she has collated more information, and as she leaves you hear someone cry out for help, leading directly into the Trials of Merlin quest
As Natsai departs from Lower Hogsfield, a stranger cries out in the distance. Head to the tent near the lake to encounter Nora Treadwell being confronted by two Ashwinder Scouts. Defeat them and two more will arrive, alongside an Ashwinder Duellist.This will also be the point in which you receive your first Duelling Feat of the game, where you must complete the battle in under 1 minute. This is best achieved by using various spells in a combo. Accio an enemy towards you, Incendio them, hit them with some Basic Cast shots, then Levioso them to keep them disabled and get in more Basic Cast hits. The Stupefy counter-attack is also very useful here. When the Ashwinder Duellist apparates in, make them your priority. Defeating them takes a powerful enemy off of the field, letting you deal with the Ashwinder Scouts more efficiently and safely. Successfully defeat all 5 enemies in under 1 minute to earn additional XP and progress towards your Duelling Feats Challenges.Speaking to Nora reveals the Ashwinders work with Rookwood, and she also explains she is out here doing research into Merlin, the ancient wizard. She details how Merlin was once a student at Hogwarts, and that he set up various ‘trials’ around the area. This is your introduction to the Merlin Trials available within the game.

She explains the Mallowsweet herb is most likely the key to initiate the trials, and so she asks you to retrieve some from the chest by her tent. Completing Merlin Trials are an excellent thing to do as early on as possible from this point, as the Challenge rewards for doing them is expanded gear capacity, meaning you have to destroy/sell/manage your inventory far less often! Proceed into the Greenhouses area and enter the classroom on the left to be introduced to Professor Garlick, your Herbology teacher. She will introduce you to the class, before beginning a lecture on the Mandrake root.Pull out the Mandrake from the pot, then replant it following the on-screen instructions. Next, speak with Professor Garlick privately in the corner of the room, and then walk over to your potting table within the classroom.Plant the Dittany seeds in the pot, and Garlick will congratulate you. She will then introduce you to the Chinese Chomping Cabbage. Meet Leander Prewett who will follow you as you head to the other greenhouse room and pick up the Chinese Chomping Cabbage from their flowerbeds. Select and equip them in your Tool Menu, and then use them to attack the practice dummy at the end of the room.After speaking to Leander about the usefulness of the cabbages, return to class and speak with Professor Garlick once again. After a short conversation, the quest will conclude.First, follow the on-screen instructions to crush up your ingredients for the potion. Then add a pinch of Dittany with the button prompt, and the subsequent drops of Horklump Juice. Similar to the grinding, stir the cauldron, and the potion will be complete.Professor Sharp will congratulate you, and talk about the Edurus Potion you picked up the recipe for in Hogsmeade. He tells you to collect the following ingredients, both of which can be found in his office:
