8Homeworld, a real-time strategy game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra Studios, was released on September 28, 1999, for Windows.
This science fiction game is set in space and tells the story of the Kushan exiles from the planet Kharak. Their home planet is destroyed by the Taiidan Empire as punishment for developing hyperspace jump technology. You guide the survivors as they journey in their mothership to reclaim their ancient homeworld of Hiigara from the Taiidan. Along the way, you will encounter various factions, including pirates, mercenaries, traders, and rebels. In each level, you gather resources, build a fleet of spacecraft, and engage in battles to destroy enemy ships and achieve mission objectives. Your fleet persists between levels, and you can navigate in a fully three-dimensional space within each level.
The game was developed over two years and marked the first game from Relic Entertainment. The game's memorable music was composed by Paul Ruskay.
