So, my first time trying out the new PS Move patch for House of the Dead Remake on PS4 and I decided to go for the dual wield option of playing as both player 1 and 2 using the PS Move gun housings I bought years ago.

So, unlike pretty much every other PS Move game I've ever played back in the good ol' PS3 days, this didn't take you straight to a calibration screen for the Moves, but the on-screen cursor seemed to be moving correctly. Weirdly, I couldn't start the game with the X button on the Move and had to use my Dualshock 4 pad.

Once in game, I realised after I got to the first hostage rescue bit the colour of the crosshairs on-screen were the wrong way around compared to the lights on the Moves. Uggh. The one with the blue light was matching the red on screen cursor and the one with the blue light vice versa. So once I'd swapped them around in my hands, to get player 1 and player 2 the right way around everything was fine.... initially.

For some reason though, the boss fights seemed to really throw my sense of which cursor was which. Really bizarre. I kept trying to aim and move with the wrong one at times and I couldn't seem to get them the right way round. It was twistin' my melon, maahn.

Anyway, apart from the boss fights screwing with my equilibrium, all was good until I got to the spider boss. At this point I had to buy a credit with the square button, which for some reason, I couldn't seem to do on the Move (I don't know if I was just being a bit of a spaz here and was pressing the wrong button in the heat of the moment, but it felt like I'd pressed everything and nowt was happening). I ended up having to press square on the dualshock 4 pad - and that seemed to then completely fuck the calibration of BOTH Moves. One of the Player crosshairs disappeared off the screen altogether and the other I was eventually able to get back on screen, but by holding the gun at a really weird unnatural angle.

I paused the game after eventually taking the boss out to see if I could un-fuck things, but there doesn't seem to be any calibration screen in the options. FFS. I tried playing on, but my aim was completely messed up by this point, so I ended up dying pretty quickly after this. Grrr.

Highly annoying, as I'd been having a good time with the game up until then.

One thing I haven't chatted about before is the general performance of the game. There are a few times, notably in transitions between areas, that you get some pretty egregious slowdown (the game actually froze on me on the 1st level in my first ever playthrough). This doesn't look like something that should be taxing the PS4 that much, so no idea why it should be struggling at times. I suspect this might be a side effect of the game's Switch origins...
