How a Manipulation Made "The Legend of Zelda" the Best Speedrun on NES

10 years ago, legendary Zelda 1 speedrunner Darkwing Duck theorized that a bomb manipulation was possible... but nobody was ever able to figure it out. That is, until 2019, when JSR and TheDoctorBlue put a few missing pieces together with DWD's theory and developed the very first Zelda 1 manip.
The manip takes the most volatile and RNG-heavy part of the speedrun, Level 3, and makes it automatic and free. This changed how the game was grinded and ran forever, and re-ignited a WR frenzy in the community between a legend and two newcomers.
Join me as we discuss why Zelda 1 is one of the best NES speedruns out there, and how the manip not only lowered the WR by 30 seconds, but also made this amazing run even better.
