How Brother Voodoo Met Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Black Panther, and the Thing
57In our continued coverage of the history of Brother Voodoo, today we're going to go over several issues documenting a number of early tie-ins with this character. Expect lots of thrills as Brother Voodoo finds himself involved in affairs with Black Panther, The Thing, the Contest of Champions, Doctor Strange, and Moon Knight!
First up is a July 1978 comic called Marvel Two-In-One #41, documenting the story Voodoo and Valor, where The Thing and Jericho Drumm investigate the disappearance of a number of prominent figures within the Black community, including the legendary hero Black Panther!
Then we'll cover the 1981 comic Doctor Strange vol. 2 #48, where Stephen Strange and his friends, Clea and Wong, first meet Brother Voodoo in a dark plot leading to deadly losses for Jericho and the return of the Serpent Loa that once empowered Brother Voodoo's first enemy, Damballah. Check out this fun story featuring work by Roger Stern, Marshall Rogers, and Terry Austin.
After that, we'll talk about Mark Gruenwald, Steven Grant, Bill Mantlo, and John Romita Jr.'s Contest of Champions, and Brother Voodoo's brief role in the 1982 event, featuring just about every superhero on Earth in a tournament concocted by the Grandmaster, an Elder of the Universe, and the embodiment of Death herself.
Finally, we'll talk about Moon Knight vol. 1 #21, a book by Doug Moench, Vicente Alcazar, John Tartaglione, Bob Camp, Christie Cheele, Irv Watanabe, and Denny O'Neil. This story, called the Master of Night Earth, features Moon Knight and Brother Voodoo attempting to thwart a deadly coup in Haiti!
