How Did Time and Space Begin | Laura Mersini-Hougton, Sean Carroll, Roger Penrose
The universe began with the Big Bang. Or so our children are taught. The Big Bang theory won out over the Steady State alternative 50 years ago because we discovered the universe was expanding. But now we know we were wrong, and it is in fact accelerating away from us. Might the whole Big Bang theory be mistaken? How could there be a beginning anyway? Is the theory of the universe’s origin just another creation myth, or is it still the best account we’ve got?

Roger Penrose: Renowned Oxford mathematician and philosopher of science, Penrose pioneered many groundbreaking ideas, for a long time together with Stephen Hawking. He has received numerous prizes and awards, including the Wolf Prize for physics.
Sean Carroll: Author of The Big Picture: On the Origins of Life, Meaning, and the Universe Itself, Carroll is a cosmologist and physicist at the California Institute of Technology. He has also contributed to The New York Times, Wired, and The New Scientist.
Laura Mersini-Hougton: Cosmologist and Professor of Physics, Mersini-Houghton's work focuses on the multiverse, and has been covered by the New Scientist, the Discovery Channel and the BBC. She pioneered the ground-breaking idea that singularities might not exist.
