Whenever you see a plane flying in the sky, the question must come to your mind that how does the plane fly in the air without any support? And how high does it fly and how does it know its route?
After watching today's video you will get answers to all your questions. So let's start today's video on how airplanes fly.
Whenever you see an airplane taking off or landing, the first thing you notice is the noise of the engines. These are called jet engines, they are very noisy.
If you think these engines alone fly the plane, you might be wrong. Even without an engine, objects can fly in the sky very easily. for example a ship made of paper.
If you want to know how an airplane flies, you must first understand the functions of the engine and the wings. Aircraft engines are designed in such a way that they can propel the AIRPLANE at full speed.
This creates a regular flow of air over the plane's wings, which moves the air down toward the ground and the plane toward the sky, which we call lift. This lift controls the weight of the plane and keeps it in the sky.
During the flight, four things work regularly in the plane.
1 Thrust. Drag Weightlift
Engines are mounted on both wings of the aircraft. Some ships also have an engine. Thrust is generated by these engines. The engine compresses the air and releases it backwards, the thrust which moves the plane forward.
Drag - When a ship moves forward, it encounters another object, called drag. An example of this is that when we take our hand out of a moving vehicle, the force exerted by the wind on the hand backwards is called drag force. This thrust depends on the speed, the higher the speed, the greater the thrust. But the thrust force of the ship is greater than the drag force and the ship continues to move forward.
Weight - As you know, everything on earth has a weight that pulls it down. Similarly, gravity acts on a flying plane and pulls it down. Lift is generated by the wings to overcome this heaviness.
Lift - When the plane moves forward, the wings are slightly tilted, causing the air above the wings to move faster and the air below them to move slower. Due to this, the air pressure above the wings decreases compared to the air pressure below the wings and the aircraft begins to move forward.
How do wings produce lift?
Most airplane wings have a raised upper surface, while the lower surface is flat, creating a cross-sectional shape called an airfoil.
An airfoil separates the air in front of it, reducing the pressure of the upstream air and accelerating both air currents downward. When the wind blows, the plane rises. The more the airfoil bends the path of the incoming air, the more lift is generated. Why does this happen? Let's understand: when air hits the raised surface of the wings, its natural inclination is to go in a straight line, but after hitting the raised surface, the wings push it back and forth. This causes the air to expand considerably and this reduces its pressure. Conversely, the air pressure under the wings increases, as the wings compress the air molecules in front of them into a smaller space.
Now many questions must be arising in your mind, such as why the air does not hit the straight wings and the upper wings and why does it get downwash instead of backwash here?
Let's go back to our discussion of differential pressure differences to answer these questions: The wings of an airplane reduce the pressure of the air above them, while the air pressure above the plane remains normal, which is the pressure of the plane. There is more.
In other words, the pressure difference created by the wings and the downwash by the air behind them are not separate entities but are all part of one.
