For World of Tanks, which is an online free to play game, to somehow make enough money to carry on, everybody must be hoping to get better and want to be better enough so that they spend money to improve their gaming experience. One way the players can be motivated to spend real money would be to improve their victory rates. And one strange thing is that everyone's winrates seem to hover around 50%. The standard deviation apparently is only 3% so the majority of players have winrates between 47% and 53%. So it does not probably matter how good or bad you are in the game unless you are really very good and then your only chance is to have fully trained crews with several additional skills per crew members, as well as play really a lot. I have currently a few tanks that are rated as performing better than 75% or even better than 90% of all other players with marked guns, even double marked, but their winrate is only 50%. Here I present my arguments why in the end this must reflect the fact that the game is made so that all players are bound to have winrates around 50%, sometimes even with tantalisingly promising tanks, to induce them to play more.
