When Gavin and Stacey fans realised Smithy (James Corden) was planning his wedding to much-hated character Sonia, not Nessa (Ruth Jones) in the opening moments of the sitcom's Christmas Day finale, it was one of the biggest TV shocks of the year.
Actor Laura Aikman admitted months of planning and elaborate cover-ups had gone into keeping the big reveal under wraps, and explained to This Morning why Strictly Come Dancing star Sarah Hadland was the one person she had trusted with her secret.
She has since shared a video of her own family watching the moment she returned as Sonia on Christmas Day, who were just as shocked as other viewers, and said that it had been "stressful" making sure she didn't let the cat out of the bag.

Aikman told This Morning on Thursday: "It was a bit stressful. It was fine when we were filming to an extent because I was also on another job so I could say to family and friends I'm just going back to work. Everyone was bored of me talking about that other job.
"But then being there was quite the undercover operation and because people are mad for it in Cardiff, so I was getting to locations hours before the crew got there, I was waiting until everyone had left before I could leave.
"When we were filming the wedding I stayed in the wedding venue. It was so weird because in the day it's so busy and then they would leave and I was just there in my pyjamas. A lot of lonely dinners."
