Rancilio Silvia ( http://amzn.to/2j5m0an ) heating up, sped up to 80x speed (original video was 41 minutes long).

It turns out that the Rancilio needs about 30 minutes to warm up on its own. This can be decreased to 20 minutes if you flush a few shots through the portafilter, but make sure you have sufficient water on hand if you do this and want to make a number of drinks after (especially if you are flushing in between shots).

Ideal warm up time for the best possible shots if 45 minutes, but 30 will do. Anything under this and the boiler will be hot but the rest of the machine will not be and the shots will be too cool by the time they hit the portafilter. This will change the taste profile, failing to bring out some of the more refined flavors in your espresso.

You should keep the portafilter in the machine during the warm up. It's not mandatory, but this means your shots will be going into a hot basket and PF, not a cold one, which means you'll get the flavor you want, not a modified flavor and water infusion because of the cold basket. If you do this, just make sure to not leave the espresso in the basket/PF for too long between tamping and pulling your shot! Also make sure to be careful when tamping, the basket and PF will be really hot.
