Ascension Island is a sovereign base to the UK, used by the Royal Air Force as a bridging point in the South Atlantic Ocean. ✈️

Leaving RAF Brize Norton were just under 2,000 doses of Oxford’s Astra Zeneca vaccine which are being used on the 800 service staff and contractors on the island.

Upon leaving refrigeration at Brize Norton, the vaccine could spend no longer than 72 hours out of refrigeration or it would have expired and become unusable.

Kirstie Chambers followed the vaccines during their 4,000-mile race against time. 🌍
