How the USMNT shockingly missed a World Cup!
October 10, 2017, the evening where the wheels came off the United States World Cup qualification campaign.
So this is how the North American qualifying scene looked in approach to the tenth and final matchday: Mexico and Costa Rica were already qualified for Russia whilst two points were split between the United States, Panama and Honduras for the final automatic spot and the inter-confederation play-off place.
For the United States not to have another bite at the cherry to qualify for the World Cup, Honduras had to beat Mexico, Panama had to beat Costa Rica and the US needed to lose to the already eliminated Trinidad and Tobago. All three happened and America missed their first World Cup since 1986.
