How a team almost made Qatar 2022 on a TECHNICALITY
The 2022 FIFA World Cup has officially begun! As we prepare to see how England will disappoint us this time, or just how good the Netherlands, France and Argentina will be, we’re going to discuss a couple more teams who aren’t in Qatar this winter who almost were.
First, Ukraine, who under the gravest of circumstances still had a chance of qualifying for the World Cup by the summer of 2022 when they met Wales in a delayed play-off final in Cardiff. After upsetting Scotland 3-1 at Hampden, Ukraine fell somewhat short further south in the British Isles, when Gareth Bale scored the only goal to end Wales’ 64 years of absence.
Then, Chile, who desperately lodged a bid to unseat Ecuador from the World Cup but failed. However, Chile might have qualified for their on-field merits, but for a poor end to qualification that saw one win in five that saw them drop from a qualification spot and into seventh place.
