how the world(story) sees them vs how they actually are
Nathan:
He went through immense trauma at a young age, witnessing every single family member of his getting consumed by the spreading virus which forced him into becoming a part of the ICS(Intergalactic Combative Security), causing him massive burnout, only adding to his existing issues and leaving him on his own. He can't get himself to open up to anyone, because it makes him feel like a burden, and it just makes him angry. He takes his anger out on people and it only creates conflict. He absolutely hates it, but he doesn't know what else to do.
Rin/Kusma:
As a small kid, when he was 6, he was sent to take part in a dangerous experiment which caused him to almost starve to death, and he had the chance to lose his life for every day passing. When he turned 19, and managed to barely escape the place ad it broke out in a serious fire, he lost everything he had. The only people he would consider "friends" were all lost in that fire. Now that he was suddenly free, he had nowhere to go, no food, no nothing. He was just there, on his own, and had to survive. He ended up making bad decisions, with a mind split in half, and nowhere safe to be.
Xirath:
They woke up in a world they knew nothing about, and just wanted to find peace. Their memory was filled with holes and blank spaces, and everything he knew was about gods and divinity. People only feared or hated him. As he began on a journey to find out what and why he had this weird memory, a bigger mystery began piecing itself together. After a while, they began tearing apart their own health to find out. Stopped sleeping, ate nothing, and never went outside, just to study, theorize and piece together what happened to be their own extreme, and traumatizing past.
Acheros:
They used to be nothing. Only thoughts and feelings in a void. They had no idea how long they had been there, but they knew that on the other side, wherever it was, there was a beautiful world, which wouldn't be waiting for them. They agreed to a deal, in which they gave up on their emotions, in order to receive a body that they could possess and use to witness the world. When that body would eventually pass away, they'd be sent back to that void, and have their feelings returned as well. Witnessing that world was something. They couldn't feel it though. They discovered a sort of drug that they could use to force out emotions on the living body, helping them pretend. They began dedicating all the time they had to produce this drug, and use it as much as possible, so that they would be able to fool themselves for a while.
Shin:
I'm not even gonna start. The YT description doesn't have enough space to let me just roughly summarize it.
Michael:
Michael, or as his actual name, Mikhail, was quite the troubled kid. He never really felt safe at home, with his parents always fighting, and his father's rather abusive behavior. He was also diagnosed with narcolepsy very early on, only making things more difficult. He only found comfort in his siblings, especially his older sister who did everything she could to take care of them. When he eventually started school, no one would really want to be near him. He had a weird accent, and he looked different from the others. As time passed, it turned into extreme bullying. He didn't feel safe anywhere anymore. People wouldn't listen to him, he had trouble passing through school, and nothing worked out for him. It made him sad, and after a long while of severe depression, he gave up and tried to end himself. That failed. It only made him feel even worse. After a while of this loneliness, he managed to start taking to people. First his sister, then his brother Lewis, and then Rose. They practically saved him. There was finally a safe place for him to be, somewhere he could feel safe, and it was amazing. At least until it went down again. Like father, like son, they say. That safe place, it was no longer safe.
