About this video: If you want to know how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft 1.19.2, this is the video for you. We not only show you how to add more RAM to Minecraft 1.19.2, but also how much RAM Minecraft needs depending on what you are doing with it. For example, modded Minecraft needs more RAM than vanilla Minecraft.
First things first though, we need to see how much RAM your computer actually has. You can do this by pressing the windows button in the taskbar. This will open the start menu where you can search for System Information. Open the System Information app, and in this app, find the Installed Physical Memory section. Here, you will see exactly how much RAM your computer has.
You cannot dedicate more RAM than your PC has to Minecraft. Truthfully, we only recommend dedicating, at max, half of your memory to Minecraft. For example, if a computer has 16GB of RAM no more than 8GB should be dedicated to Minecraft.
How much RAM does Minecraft 1.19.2 need though? Well, it depends on what you want to do with it. If you are playing vanilla Minecraft, you only need to dedicate 2GB of RAM to Minecraft.
However, if you are adding mods to Minecraft 1.19.2, the amount of RAM you need changes. For less than 50 mods, 4GB is enough RAM for Minecraft 1.19.2. Up to about 150 mods, 6GB is sufficient. However, for 150+ Minecraft mods, we recommend dedicating around 8GB to Minecraft 1.19.2. Remember though. Never add more than half of your total RAM to Minecraft.
So now that you know how much RAM to dedicate to Minecraft, how do you actually allocate more RAM to Minecraft 1.19.2?
Well, to do this, open up the Minecraft Launcher. Then, click on ‘Installations’ at the top. Here you will see all of your Minecraft installations. Adding more RAM to modded Minecraft is done the exact same way as vanilla Minecraft by the way.
On the installation tab, hover over the Minecraft version you want to add more RAM to. Then, click on the three dots that appear. Click edit, and then click ‘More Options’. You will see a JVM Arguments section. In the text box under this section, there will be -Xmx2G at the beginning. The ‘2’ in this string is the amount of RAM Minecraft has. To add more RAM to Minecraft 1.19.2, change this number.
For example, -Xmx4G means that 4GB of RAM has been dedicated to Minecraft. Once you have changed this number to the amount of RAM that you want Minecraft 1.19.2 to have, click the green save button, and play Minecraft like you normally would.
In Minecraft, you will be able to press F3 or FN + F3 to see Minecraft’s in-game info. In the top right, you can see how much RAM Minecraft currently has dedicated to it. This will be in MB though. For every 1GB of RAM, you will get 1,000 MB.
