133It’s crunch time as students tie up loose ends for their Star Wars fan film. Full Sail Film instructor and industry pro Jason Strawley helps with the final steps, which include sound design and Foley work – recording and manipulating sounds that exist in the real world to create sounds that don’t exist. Base layers for the lightsaber sounds are created by using a guitar amp that has not been plugged into a guitar, along with Pro Tools to synthesize and manipulate missing components. Next, the team uses a Slinky with a contact microphone to replicate the blaster sounds. Finishing the sound effects for the film involves using a lavalier microphone with a scuba tank and regulator to record Darth Vader’s breathing. The final step involves recording the Foley in real-time to expedite the process of recording sound in post-production. How will our students’ Star Wars fan film end up? Find out soon!
