Missing your wedding in Skyrim, will enable player controls during cutscenes. However, equipping a weapon is needed to enable fully player controls, as some actions would, otherwise, not be able to be performed. Dropping a bear trap on Mercer Frey is not needed to avoid getting stabbed.
