Modding Update Edit:
When removing the ceramic heater, it is best to push the heater out of the tube using a thin wooden tool and light pressure. Pulling on the wires can result in breakage as they are quite delicate. This tip comes right from VB themselves.
RE: the heater holder / plug:
I feel like I may have glossed over the importance of ensuring the plug is securely in place. It has an obvious slot for the ceramic heater to sit in to, and you must only fill enough balls that the heater will sit into this groove while still allowing the plug to securely grip into the glass tube. That plug is the only thing holding back hot balls that are already on a downward slant and tempted by gravity; this is your motivation to get it right.

Taking inspiration from Mr. Troy @420vapezone, I decided to modify my old VaporBrothers VB1 (OG Standard) by adding balls for additional thermal mass and greater energy efficiency. I now understand why Troy loved his modded SSV so much. This has quickly become my favourite device to use; it hits as hard (or HARDER) than my injectors, with much better flavour, all while sipping power from the wall! Maybe you don't want to dish out all those clams on that fancy ballerhead you've been looking at, but you have an old, out-of-warranty VB1 and a bag of balls sat around... ;D
Dig it out, you won't be sorry.
