How to bring back Marcos - for good. | Reinventing and Rejuvenating the Iconic British Marque
78I've been a Marcos fan for most of my life, and everything about the boutique British marque is an ode to what English sports car brands are all about: Plucky personality, excellent cornering, competition successes - but rarely when you'd expect, and a penchant for going bust. Unfortunately though, the owners and backers of Marcos seem set on reviving the brand over and over with the same essential idea - making yet another sports car. And although that initially makes sense given it is what most people know Marcos for, the track record has proven that existing fans - regardless of how vocal - don't support the brand enough when it comes to actual sales to keep them around. Especially when prices rival their far more established rivals from Porsche and beyond - but with riskier reliability and a lack of faith in aftersales support and infrastructure.
With that in mind, this is my proposal for how Marcos could be resurrected with the best chances of success, by combining all of the best things about the plucky little brand - one of their most recognisably oddball designs, a development and production process which would cut costs and issues massively, and crucially - by appealing to an ever growing segment of the modern performance car landscape, but in a way which places Marcos as a well priced and viable alternative to the less interesting mainstream players on the market.
