Whenever you connect a drive to your Windows 11 computer, it automatically gets assigned a drive letter. Thankfully, if you're not a fan of the assigned letters for your connected drivees, Microsoft makes it relatively easy to change them. And while you can change the letter associated with any of your drives, you do need to be careful which drives you do this with. Changing the drive letters of drives that store system information or drives that other applications reference could be disastrous.

Now let's walk through the steps to change your drive letters in Windows 11.

Step 1. Navigate to your Windows 11 home screen, and then right-click the "Windows" icon on your taskbar. A menu is displayed.

Step 2. Click "Disk Management" in this menu. The Disk Management screen is shown, listing all of the drives and partitions connected to your Windows computer.

Step 3. Find the drive in this list that you want to change the letter for, and then right click that drive to open a menu.

Step 4. Click "Change Drive Letter and Paths" in this menu. A Change Drive Letter and Paths window pops up.

Step 5. Make sure the drive you want to change is selected, and then click "Change." Another window is displayed where you can change the drive letter and path.

Step 6. Make sure the "Assign the following drive letter" option is selected, and then click the drop-down associated with that option that's displaying your current drive letter. A list of available drive letters you can switch that drive to be associated with are displayed.

Step 7. Click to choose the drive letter you want to be associated with that drive. You should see that drive letter in the drop-down box.

Step 8. Click "OK." A warning message pops up letting you know that some programs that rely on drive letters might not run correctly, and asks if you're sure you want to continue.

Step 9. Click "Yes" if you want to move forward. Going forward your newly selected drive letter will be associated with that drive on your Windows 11 computer.
