Putting on your Oculus Quest 2 VR headset lets you step into other worlds, and as a result disconnects you being aware of a lot of your real-world surroundings. As a result, you're likely to miss phone calls, messages, and other notifications that come through your smartphone. Thankfully, Meta makes it easy to connect your Quest 2 with your iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth, and enable a feature that will display any alerts that show up on your phone on your Quest 2 display.
Now let's walk through the steps to turn on phone notifications on your Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headset.
Step 1. Launch the Oculus app on your iPhone or Android device. You'll land on the Oculus home screen. Before you move forward make sure that both your Oculus Quest 2 VR headset and your iPhone or Android device are connected to the same wifi network.
Step 2. Tap the "Menu" icon featuring three horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. The Menu screen is displayed.
Step 3. Tap "Devices." The Devices screen is shown.
Step 4. Make sure the Oculus Quest device you want to display phone notifications on is selected in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. Then scroll down the screen to the Headset Settings section, and then tap "Phone Notifications" in this section. The Phone Notifications screen is shown, letting you know that turning this feature on makes it possible for you to see notifications for calls, messages and other apps on your phone while you're using your VR headset.
Step 5. Tap "Continue." If both your iPhone or Android device and your Oculus Quest 2 VR headset are connected to the same wireless network, you'll see a Bluetooth Pairing Request dialog box asking if your phone can pair with your Quest headset. If you don't see this message you'll need to make sure that both your iPhone or Android device are connected to the same wifi network, and then repeat the steps in this video again.
Step 6. Make sure the code you see on each device matches, and then tap "Pair" on your iPhone or Android device. Another message is displayed asking you to give your Oculus Quest 2 permission to display your iPhone or Android notifications. Tap "Allow." The next screen asks if you want to turn on phone notifications to complete the notifications setup.
Step 7. Tap "Turn On." The Phone Notifications screen is displayed.
Step 8. Tap to turn on "Phone Notifications in VR" if it isn't turned on already if you want to enable notifications on your Quest 2 headset.
Step 9. Move down to the lower part of this screen where you're able to choose which notifications you receive. By default, you'll see options for messages and phone calls. Tapping the ellipses to the right of either option will bring up a menu where you can configure when you receive those types of messages on your Oculus Quest 2. For example, you can choose to always receive those notifications, receive those notifications only while you're at home, or to never receive those types of notifications.
Additionally, you can tap to toggle on "Other Notifications." When you do this, as other apps on your device send you notifications, you'll see those apps in this list and you'll be able to configure when you receive them as well.
Going forward your notifications settings will be applied, and you'll start seeing the notifications you've selected in your Oculus Quest 2 VR headset while you're using it.
