While you can change font size and color, and use bold, italics and underline to make certain things stand out and look a little bit different, one thing that almost all Microsoft Word documents have in common is that they use a white background. Thankfully, if you want to make your document stand out from the crowd a little bit, Microsoft makes it possible to change the background color of your Word document. The only caveat is that there's no way to change the background color for a specific page, and if you do this, it will change the background color of all of the pages in your document.
Now let's walk through the steps to change the background color of pages in a Microsoft Word document.
Step 1. Open Microsoft Word on your computer.
Step 2. Click to select "Design" in the menu along the top of the screen. Design options will be displayed in the Ribbon.
Step 3. Navigate to the Page Background section, and then click the "Page Color" drop-down to open a menu where you'll see options for different colors.
Step 4. Hover your cursor over the various colors to see a preview of how those colors will look when applied to your Word document. Click the color you want to apply as the background to all of the pages in your Microsoft Word document. As a reminder, you can't change the background of a single page, and your change will be applied to all pages in the document. The background color of the pages in your Word document will be changed automatically.
If you ever want to remove the background color from pages in your Word document and return to the traditional white background, simply navigate back to the Page Colors drop-down menu, and then click "No Color."
