[How To] Compress a Video using VLC (VideoLAN) Media Player
This video itself that you are watching was compressed from 67.7 MB to 17.2 MB. Impressive aye? If you can't be bothered watching the whole video, here are the steps:
Step 1: Open VLC Media Player. If you don't have it, well what the heck are you doing here? Just download it if you're interested else don't watch this video
Step 2: Click the Media tab and go down to 'Convert / Save' and click
Step 3: Browse for the video you want to compress and click next
Step 4: Set the profile to the MP4 preset. If you don't have it there, either update your VLC player or create a profile yourself (video codec MPEG, audio codec MP3, set resolution to the same as the original source video)
Step 5: Browse for the location you want to export the compressed video. IMPORTANT!!!: Set the video file name to something unique (so it doesn't override any file in that folder) and suffix it with ".mp4" including the period/dot. Otherwise you'll get some weird format.
Step 666: Profit?!?
The compression ratio depends on:
1. The original source compression
2. The compression codec of the original source file (e.g. An ACER A1-830's video format is fucking SHIIIIIIIIIIIT)
