Curving text in a design can be critical to either making the text flow with the design's theme or making the text stand out in the overall design. And while you can curve text in both the free web and mobile versions of Canva, navigating to where you do that and understanding the feature isn't so easy. In this video I'll show you the steps to curve text on both the Canva website and the Canva mobile app.
First let's walk through the steps to curve text on the Canva website.
Step 1. Open the image you want to add curved text to in Canva, and then add the text you want to curve to your image. In this example I'll just click "Text" in the menu on the left side of the screen, and then "Add a heading" to get some text on the screen.
Step 2. Click to select the text. You'll know the text is selected when there's a blue box around the text. Click "Effects" in the menu along the top of the screen. Effects options will be shown on the left side of the screen.
Step 3. Click "Curve" in the Shape section in this menu. Your text will now be curved, but let's look at how to adjust it.
Step 4. You'll see a Curve section now added beneath the Shape menu. Move the slider to adjust the curve of the text in its current direction, or swing it the other way to make the text curve in the opposite direction. Additionally, if you select your text you'll see a rotation icon. If you click and hold your cursor on that rotation icon, you can rotate your curved text.
Next let's look at how to curve text in Canva using the Canva app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
Step 1. Launch the Canva mobile app, and then open the image you want to add curved text to in Canva. Next, add the text you want to curve to your image. In this example I'll tap the "Plus" icon, then "Text" in the menu along the bottom of the screen, and finally "Add a heading" to get some text on the screen.
Step 2. Tap the text to place a blue line around it, indicating it's selected, and then tap "Effects" in the menu at the bottom of the screen. The Effects menu pops up.
Step 3. Tap "Shape" in this menu to see shape options, and then tap "Curve." Your text will now be curved, but let's look at how to adjust it.
Step 4. Tap "Curve" again in this menu to bring up a slider. Move the slider to adjust the curve of the text in its current direction, or swing it the other way to make the text curve in the opposite direction. Additionally, if you select your text you'll see a rotation icon. If you hold your finger against that rotation icon, you can rotate your curved text.
