How to Disable Remote Desktop Connections in Windows 11 [Tutorial]

Remote access effectively allows you to control everything on your computer as if you were directly connected to it. In Windows 11, you can do this through the Windows Remote Desktop feature that allows you (or others) to connect to your computer remotely over a network connection.

You can use the Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc.exe) or Microsoft Remote Desktop app to connect to and control your Windows 11 PC from a remote device. When you allow remote desktop connections to your PC, you can use another device to connect to your PC and have access to all of your apps, files, and network resources as if you were sitting at your desk.

Unfortunately, hackers can exploit Remote Desktop to gain control of remote systems and install malware or steal personal information. It’s a good idea to keep the remote access feature turned off unless you actively need it. By default, the feature is disabled. Once enabled, however, it’s easy to disable it again.

The Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) found in every modern version of Windows is designed to let users remotely connect to a computer over a network connection. But while the feature is useful for IT admins managing a fleet of systems, or for yourself to connect to your home computer while you're away, it has also been exploited many times by hackers to stage cyberattacks. A couple of new developments indicate that problem may be getting worse.

Windows Remote Desktop allows you or others to connect to your computer remotely over a network connection—effectively accessing everything on your computer as if you are directly connected to it.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 11 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung.
