How to fix Blocky Particles in SFM
Hello, starting a small SFM guide series today. Feel free to ask for stuff you think could use a video guide for!
If you've ever tried adding certain unusual effects into Source Filmmaker (shown in the video are Purple Energy, Death at Dusk and Disco Beatdown), you may have noticed that they look all blocky and weird. Step by step fix:
1. Instance particle system
2. Open the particle in the element viewer
3. Search inside particlesystemdefinition for "whispy_smoke_add.vmt"
4. Replace "whispy_smoke_add" with "softglow"
This should fix pretty much any blocky particle issues.
If you cannot find "whispy_smoke_add" inside a complex unusual effect (death at dusk has multiple subparticles, for example), you just have to search inside all of the child particle definitions until you can find it.
If you really cannot find it, try arbitrarily replacing stuff which looks out of place with "softglow" and see what happens haha
