How to Get Both Sword Upgrades (First Quest) - The Legend of Zelda First Quest 100% Walkthrough
77This shows how to get both the White & Magical Swords during the First Quest. The only requirement to get either sword is that Link's maximum health must be at least 5 & 12 hearts respectively (how much of his health is currently filled is unimportant; only his maximum health matters). Additionally, you don't need the White Sword to get the Magical Sword. If you have enough health then you can just go for the Magical Sword directly.
White Sword (0:00): The White Sword does twice the damage of the Wooden Sword. To get it Link's maximum health must be at least 5 hearts. It's possible to get this sword before doing any of the dungeons by finding 2 of the Heart Containers hidden throughout Hyrule.
To get to this sword from the starting screen go right 1 screen, up 5 screens, left 1 screen, up 1 screen, right 3 screens, & up 1 more screen. At this point you should be on a screen with a lake, a blue Lynel, & a cave. Go into this cave & you'll find an Old Man with the Sword. If you have the required amount of maximum health then simply grab the sword.
Magical Sword (1:14): The Magical Sword does twice the damage of the White Sword & it requires that Link's maximum health be at least 12. While Link's health is the only requirement to actually get the sword, the path I take to get it in this video requires you to also have the Stepladder. If you don't have it then watch the video linked below where I show an alternate way to get to this sword.
To get to the Magical Sword from the starting screen go right 1 screen, up 5 screens, left 2 screens, down 1 screen, left 1 screen, up 1 screen, left 2 screens, down 1 screen, left 2 screens, & up 1 more screen. At this point you should be in the top right corner of the graveyard. Here there are 3 rows of graves. Push up on the grave that is in the middle row & 2nd from the right to reveal a staircase. Go down it & get the sword from the Old Man.
