How to get the fireworks in Super Mario Bros (NES) - Retrogaming Easter Eggs #mario
836In Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo Entertainment System, you will often see a celebration of fireworks upon completing a level. But is there something specific that causes the fireworks to appear, or is it based on a random number generator?
It's quite simple! If Mario (or Luigi) touches the flagpole when the last digit of the TIME remaining is a 1, 3, or 6, the game will award you with 1, 3, or 6 fireworks respectively. Each firework earns you 500 points.
That's it! Just finish the level with a 1, 3, or 6 as the last digit on your timer! Note that this only works on levels with flagpoles.
