To install Proton GE on your Steam Deck and force games to start with it, follow these steps:

Switch to Desktop Mode:
Hold down the power button and select “Switch to Desktop” from the menu.
Install ProtonUp-Qt:
Open the Discover app (software center) from the bottom left of the screen.
Search for “ProtonUp-Qt” and install it.

Install Proton GE:
Launch ProtonUp-Qt.
Click on “Add Version” and select the latest Proton GE version.
Click “Install” and wait for the installation to complete13.
Restart Steam:

After installation, restart Steam to see the new Proton GE version in the compatibility list.

Force a Game to Use Proton GE:
Open Steam and go to your Library.
Right-click on the game you want to use Proton GE with and select “Properties”.

Go to the “Compatibility” tab and check “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool”.
Select the Proton GE version you installed from the dropdown menu4.
