Step 1: To install the Hyper-V virtualization software on your Windows 10 operating system, turn Windows Features On or Off and select the Hyper-V option, click OK, and restart your PC after the necessary files are installed.

Step 2: Find the Hyper-V virtualization program software in the start menu and run it. After running the program, you must create an External Switch to include guest machines in your local network before installing a Windows operating system. With the Default Switch, VMs do not get an IP address from the IP block you use in your local network. Using an External Switch is better, as assigning an IP address from the local DHCP server to the VM is healthier. You can create a new adapter after opening the Virtual Switch Manager tool from the Actions section.

Step 3: Select External in Virtual Switch Manager and click the Create Virtual Switch button to create the adapter, and then select the Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapter of your physical computer in the External Network setting and click OK to close the window.

Step 4: After configuring the network adapter, click Actions / New / Virtual Machine to start the virtual machine creation wizard.

Step 5: When the Before You Begin window opens, click Next to continue creating a manual virtual computer.

Step 6: In the Specify Name and Location window, type the name of the Windows operating system you will install and click the Browse button to back up the VM in an external location, then specify the location on your external storage device.

Step 7: In the Specify Generation window, you will see two options, Generation 1 and Generation 2. Generation 1 supports BIOS firmware to install older operating systems such as #WindowsXP. Generation 2, on the other hand, supports UEFI firmware to install newer operating systems such as Windows 10. Select Generation 1 for the BIOS type, as Windows XP does not officially support the UEFI system.

Step 8: In the Assign Memory window, you must assign the RAM size to the Windows XP virtual computer. If you are going to run multiple virtual machines at the same time in #HyperV, you can enable the Dynamic Memory feature for better memory management. However, if you use only one guest machine, do not use Dynamic Memory and assign a fixed size of 4096 MB (4 GB) to the VM.

Step 9: In the Configure Networking window, select the External network adapter you created for XP.

Step 10: In the Connect Virtual Hard Disk window, you can configure the size of the virtual hard disk depending on the work you will do. By default, Hyper-V has set a disk capacity of 127GB for the Windows XP virtual machine, but you can set this value to the recommended minimum of 50GB.

Step 11: In the Installation Options window, select the Install an operating system from a bootable image file option to add a Windows XP ISO file to the virtual machine. Click the Browse button to add the image file you downloaded to your computer.

Step 12: Review the settings you have made on the virtual machine in the Summary window, and if there is a setting you want to change on the VM, you can return to the previous settings or close the wizard by clicking Finish.

Step 13: After creating the Windows XP virtual computer, open its settings and set the virtual processor number to 4 or higher according to the hardware power of your host.

Step 14: Finally, connect to Windows XP and start the installation by clicking the Start button.
