How to Make a Drop-Down List in Excel Drop Menu
In this video I show you how to make a drop-down list in Excel. You can create a drop-down by first selecting the cells or column that you want the list to be in. Additionally, you will need to select the Data Validation option in the Data tab. Once selected a new window will open with a series of options that you can select from. However, to make a drop-down list you will ant to set the Allow setting to list. Once list has been selected a source box will be appear. Here you can enter the list of items that you want to appear in the drop-down menu.
When entering your list each item will need to be separated by a comma. This ensures that every item appears as a separate option when using the menu. Additionally, this allows you to add multiple words to a selection if you wish.
After you have confirmed your list you can click “Ok” to create the drop menu. Additionally, you can apply the drop-list to other cells by dragging the bottom right corner of the original cell to cover the additional cells. This allows you to add the Excel drop-list to cells above, beneath or to the sides of the original.
Additionally, you can edit the drop-down list at any point by opening the Data Validation window again and by making changes to the existing list. However, if the list is too long then you may have issues adding more items to the end. Instead, you will need to click the up arrow button to edit the list easier.
Once you make a drop-down list in Excel you will have the ability to select from any of the chosen items in your list. This makes selecting an exact option easier, and can help avoid making spelling errors. The drop-down menu can be opened by clicking the down arrow on a selected cell.
