1) Update the Instagram app to the latest version
2) Open Instagram and login to your account
3) Now go to the chat screen but do not open the chat just yet
4) Turn off WiFi and enable Flight Mode on your phone
5) Go ahead and read the message
6) Go to your profile page now. Tap on the three lines at the top followed by the Settings option at the bottom
7) Log out of Instagram.
8) Now you may enable WiFi and turn off flight mode
9) Hola! You have now read the message without them knowing.
