Whether you need to temporarily stop a download to free up bandwidth or permanently cancel it, the process on Xbox Series X|S is quick and easy.

How to Pause or Cancel an Active Download
Open the Guide: Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the Guide.

Go to the 'My games & apps' tab: Use the D-pad or left stick to navigate to the 'My games & apps' tab, then select 'See all'.

Select 'Queue': In the left-hand menu, select the 'Queue' option. This is where all your active and pending downloads and installations are listed.

Highlight the item: Highlight the game or app that you want to pause or cancel.

Open the options menu: Press the Menu button (the button with three horizontal lines) on your controller.

Select your action: A menu will pop up with several options:

Pause installation: This will temporarily stop the download. You can resume it at any time from the same menu.

Cancel: This will permanently stop the download and remove it from your queue.
