Learn to play Chess in under 60 seconds.
1) Place all of your pawns in a straight line in the second row
2) The rooks go in the corners, then the knights next to them, then the bishops. The Queen goes on her colour and the King goes next to her.
3) The King can only move one square in any direction unless he would put himself into check, which is a square in which he could be captured.
4) In chess, you can Win, lose, or draw. To win, you need to put the other player’s King in check so that they cannot avoid capture on the next move.
5) Alternatively, a player can resign.
6) If a player can’t move their King safely, and it is not in check, the game results in a stalemate, or a tie.
7) The Queen can move any straight direction, any number of squares without moving through any of her own pieces. When a player moves on to an opponent’s piece, they capture it, remove it from the board, and their turn ends.
8) The Bishops can move any distance diagonally on the colour they start on.
9) Knights can move in an L shape, 2 squares in one direction, and 1 square at a 90 degree angle. They can also leap over other pieces.
10) Rooks can move as far as they want forward, backward and to the sides in a straight line.
11) From their starting position, pawns can move 1 or two spaces forward. Subsequently, they can only move 1 space and never backwards. They capture pieces 1 space diagonally. At the opponent’s end row, they can be promoted to become any piece whether captured or not.
12) That’s how you play chess in 60 seconds
