Cassandra is a name of Greek origin. The name is derived from the Greek word "kassandra" which means "she who entangles men". The name first appears in Greek mythology as the daughter of King Priam of Troy. In the myth, Cassandra was blessed with the gift of prophecy but cursed by Apollo so that her prophecies would never be believed. The name was popularized in the 18th century by the Swiss author, Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller, who used it in his play, "Die Jungfrau von Orleans" (The Maid of Orleans).

Cassandra is pronounced as kuh-SAN-druh.
