ATTENTION: I've made another tutorial, a method using only FRAPS which doesn't require filemonkey nor treesize: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEH0VaI4kZ0

This tutorial will teach you how to record oe-cake regardless of how slow your computer is, and still make full-motion movies.

Using this method, every single motion frame is captured, allowing a 100% real-time movie in the end as if oe-cake were running on a supercomputer.

WARNING: Massive amounts of HDD space are required, that is the tradeoff.

SIZE INFO:
Screen size: 1680x1050
Sandbox size: 1408x926
Particle count: 32,786

Capture file: 11:56 / 462M
Bitmaps: 26.1G
Final render: 0:30 / 3.3G

PROGRAMS USED:
FRAPS: http://www.fraps.com
TreeSize: http://www.jam-software.com/treesize/index.shtml
FileMonkey: http://www.monkeyjob.com/FileMonk.html

NOTES:
Technically you should set it to 25 frames in virtual dub as this is the default for oe-cake. Choosing 30 will allow for smoother motion playback but the video will actually run 17% faster than if you were playing it in oe-cake in real time on a supercomputer.

Any program which accomplishes the same tasks can be used, you don't have to use treesize/filemonkey. Here is a free version of treesize, not sure if it offers the same functionality: http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml
