【steps】
---------------------------------------------------------
** first back up ur save files just in case**
1) pick up whatever you need from ur vanilla ship, you won't be going back to it
2) make a byos if you havent already
3) set aside the byos .shipworld file and the .player file for character you are moving with, found in your "Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\storage\player" folder
4) make two empty .player files (you can just rename an empty text file)
5) find the path to both "dump_versioned_json.exe" and "make_versioned_json.exe", which is most likely "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win32\dump_versioned_json.exe" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win32\make_versioned_json.exe"
6) note the paths to both your .player file and your empty player files you created
7) run command prompt as administrator
8) enter the following directories in order (all on the same line): "[insert path to dump_versioned_json.exe]" '[path to your .player file]" "[path to one of your two empty player files]" and hit enter
9) the empty player file you entered will now contain a readable version of your .player file, so open that (i used notepad)
10) change the value of "shipLevel" to 0 (near the top under ship upgrades) and save
11) back to command prompt, enter the following in order: "[insert path to make_version_json.exe]" "[path to the .player file you just changed the value in]" "[path to your remaining empty .player file]" and hit enter
12) If you don't get the message "Error parsing json: bad number, must start with digit at [line number]:[characters in] " skip to step 14, if you do: reopen the .player file where you changed the ship level, and go to the line number it gave you in the error and change the "-nan(ind)" to a number like 99999 or something ((or alternatively just edit---replace all "-nan(ind)" with a big number
13) repeat step 11
14) If no errors, that last empty .player file is now your new fixed .player file (you can tell because the file size is no longer 0kb)
15) rename both your byos .shipworld file and your new fixed .player file so they have the UUID of ur original .player file as: [UUID].player and [UUID].shipworld
16) copy paste them back into ur player folder, you should be replacing 2 files (unless you removed the player files from there)
17) launch starbound and ur character's ship should now be the byos
(If something in this was not clear, the visuals in the video might help a bit, i am awful at writing sorry)

thanks for watching, i hope it works for you too!
