How to Turn Off Auto Enhance on iPhone Photos
If you're not a fan of the automatic enhancements that your iPhone applies to your photos, this video will show you how to turn off the auto-enhance feature. Auto-enhance is designed to improve the quality of your photos by adjusting things like brightness, contrast, and saturation, but sometimes you may prefer to make these changes manually. The steps provided here will help you disable these enhancements and give you more control over how your photos look.
To start, open the Settings app on your iPhone. If you're using iOS 18, look for the "Apps" section in the settings menu. Once you are in the Apps section, scroll down to find the "Photos" app. Inside the Photos settings, you will see an option called "View Full HDR." By default, this option is turned on, but if you want to prevent automatic enhancements, simply disable this setting.
After turning off the HDR feature, go back to the main Settings menu and navigate to the Camera settings. If you don’t immediately see Camera in the list, it may be further down. In the Camera settings, you'll find several options to adjust, including video quality. For most users, recording in 1080p at 60 FPS is more than sufficient, and turning off unnecessary features like 4K recording can save battery life.
You’ll also notice an option for "Enhanced Stabilization." While stabilization can be helpful for reducing camera shake, it may not always be necessary, and turning it off can conserve battery. If HDR is turned on for video or photos, consider turning it off here as well, especially if you notice it’s draining your battery quickly or if you prefer to control the photo settings manually.
Another key setting you can adjust is "Photographic Styles." This setting allows you to choose different looks for your photos, such as rich contrast or vibrant colors. However, if you're looking to turn off auto-enhancements, the "Standard" photographic style is the best option. It provides a neutral base without any extra color enhancements, allowing you to make manual edits as needed.
By customizing these settings, you’ll gain more control over how your iPhone captures photos and videos, ensuring that the automatic enhancements don’t interfere with the look you want to achieve. This guide is especially helpful for users who prefer to fine-tune their photos manually or want to conserve battery life by disabling features like HDR and enhanced stabilization.
