By default if you don't read a message on your iPhone or iPad, you'll receive a repeat alert for that same message two minutes later. Thankfully, if the repeat message alerts on your iPhone or iPad are annoying, you can easily turn them off.

Now let's walk through the steps to turn off repeated text message alerts on your Apple iPhone or iPad.

Step 1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. You'll land on your Settings screen.

Step 2. Tap "Notifications" in this menu. The Notifications screen is shown.

Step 3. Scroll down to Messages on the lower part of this screen, and then tap "Messages." The Messages screen is displayed.

Step 4. Scroll down to the bottom of this screen and then tap "Customize Notifications." You'll land on the Customize Notifications screen.

Step 5. Tap "Repeat Alerts." You'll open a menu where you can choose how many times your iPhone or iPad should repeat text message alerts.

Step 6. Tap to place a check mark next to "Never" if you don't want to receive more than one alert for a text message on your iPhone or iPad. Going forward you'll only receive one message alert.
